Intruder kills man in KC home

Kansas City police are investigating the shooting death of a man found inside of residence in the central city.

Officers called to the 5600 block of College Avenue about 5 a.m. on a reported shooting found a man dead inside the home, police said. The victim’s name has not been released.

Witnesses said someone broke into the residence and began shooting. The victim was struck in the upper body. He was found at the bottom of a set of stairs near the front door.

Several relatives inside at the time were not injured.

Neighbors said they heard gunshots just before 5 a.m.

Homicide investigators remained at the crime scene throughout Wednesday. Police cordoned off the entire block.
