An Independence man died after being found shot in a front yard Friday morning, and police are searching for a Cadillac that was seen leaving the scene.

David J. Duncan, 45, was found shot outside the house in the 16900 block of East 41st Terrace South about 9:45 a.m. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Duncan’s mother, Victoria Duncan, said she owned the house and her son was living there.

Police arriving at the scene tried to stop a Cadillac that was leaving the area, but it fled. Officers pursued the car but lost sight of it heading west on U.S. 50, west of Unity Village.

Investigators are looking for the car, which they described as a silver 2015 Cadillac XTS with Missouri license plate HL1L5H.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477 or the Independence Police Department at 816-325-7777.

Last year, Duncan’s 21-year-old son, Darrin Duncan, was found shot to death outside a residence in the 2900 block of East 22nd Street in Kansas City. That case remained unsolved, according to police.
