Man shot, killed near downtown Kansas City

A man shot to death late Thursday night in a restaurant parking lot near downtown Kansas City was identified Friday as 27-year-old Derrell Wallace.

The shooting occurred about 11 p.m. Thursday in the rear parking lot of the Denny’s restaurant at 1600 Broadway.

Police said the Wallace, of Kansas City, was taken by private vehicle to a hospital by where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said the shooting may have occurred during an attempted drug deal. A witness told police that the suspect and Wallace got into an altercation inside a vehicle before the shooting.
