Man charged in murder for shooting a grandmother in the back

A 33-year-old Kansas City man was charged with first-degree murder Friday for shooting a grandmother of seven in the back while she was sitting on a porch on a Sunday night in east Kansas City.

According to court documents, Antwan L. Fayne approached a house at 814 Indiana Ave. on May 3 and shot seven times at a group of people on the porch. A witness said Jossette Beeks, 46, was shot and killed as she turned to escape. The witness said he had been feuding with Fayne for months and that Fayne had previously threatened him and Beeks.

Fayne had been charged with assault in the incident. A grand jury indicted him on murder, armed criminal action and illegal possession of a firearm. He had previously pleaded guilty to drug and domestic assault offenses. Fayne is in the Jackson County jail.
