Charges filed against KC woman wounded in gunfight she allegedly started
Jackson County prosecutors filed felony charges Friday against a Kansas City woman wounded after she allegedly instigating a gunfight.
Courtney L. Jones, 37, faces charges of first-degree domestic assault, first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action.
According to court documents:
Jones was angry about her girlfriend moving out of their residence and sent a threatening text Thursday morning. A short time later, as the girlfriend and a male friend sat on a home’s front steps in the 5300 block of Euclid Avenue, Jones drove up and stepped out of her vehicle with a gun.
Witnesses said that Jones began firing before the man pulled out a gun and returned fire.
Jones got back in the vehicle and drove off. Police found her several blocks away. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Bullets did not hit anyone else, including a child playing in the yard at the time.
