KC man accused in fatal shooting at CoCo Key water park

Prosecutors accused a 24-year-old man Wednesday of shooting two men and killing one of them at an east Kansas City water park last month.

Divonte L. Lewis, of Kansas City, faces second-degree murder, assault and armed criminal action charges in the slaying of Ryshun Bell, 19, and wounding of another man May 16 at the CoCo Key Water Resort connected to the Adam’s Mark Hotel at Interstate 70 and Blue Ridge Cutoff.

According to court records:

Witnesses heard Lewis involved in a loud argument in the water park’s pool area. When one participant tried to leave, Lewis and several others followed. Another argument occurred in the main entrance and foyer area.

During that confrontation, Lewis brandished a black handgun and fired several shots at the men, striking Bell and wounding the other man, a witness said.

Following the shooting, a witness saw three men run past him and into the wooded area east of the park.

Bell was taken to a hospital, where he died. The second victim had non-life-threatening injuries.

Bond was set at $250,000, according to court records.
