Two men charged in Halloween shooting death of a Kansas City man
Jackson County prosecutors have accused two men in the Halloween shooting death of a 22-year-old man in south-central Kansas City.
Antonio Golston, 21, and Travone Shaw, 19, both of Kansas City, are charged with second-degree murder, robbery and armed criminal action in the slaying of Dionte Greene of Kansas City.
Police arrested Golston on Friday following a police chase. Investigators used Golston’s cellphone to connect him to the shooting.
According to court records:
Greene was found dead in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle in the 6900 block of Bellefontaine Avenue. He had been shot in the head. Police found his cellphone in the vehicle.
Greene had contacted people on Facebook in an attempt to meet for a sexual encounter. He had arranged to meet someone at a friend’s house in south Kansas City, about a mile from where police found his body.
Meanwhile, Golston allegedly told Shaw that he was going to rob someone. Before Greene picked them up, Golston told Shaw to sit in the passenger seat. Golston sat in the rear seat. They drove to a gas station to withdraw cash before going to a residence on Bellefontaine.
According to what Shaw later told police, Shaw got out of the vehicle and saw Golston pull out a .45 caliber handgun and point it at Greene. The two men wrestled before Golston shot Greene, Shaw told investigators, according to court records.
Investigators found numerous messages on Facebook between Greene and someone identified as “Tra da Gunner,” which they later determined was a nickname for Shaw. They also found Shaw’s fingerprints on the vehicle’s front passenger door window.
Police arrested Shaw May 22 on unrelated charges, court records stated.
Prosecutors requested that bond for Golston and Shaw be set at $250,000.
