Former KC union official sentenced to federal prison for embezzlement

The former president of the union that represents Jackson County jail employees was sentenced to federal prison Monday for embezzling union funds.

Jesse E. Morgan was ordered to serve 21 months in prison and pay restitution of more than $138,000.

Morgan, 39, was president of Local 1701 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees from 2008 to 2012, when other union officers discovered the embezzlement.

Last October, Morgan pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Kansas City to wire fraud.
