Raymore explosives scare over after police find deteriorated road flares

An evacuation near the South Metro Fire Station in Raymore is over after police determined that suspected explosives were just deteriorated road flares.

Raymore Police Capt. Roger Mayberry said a citizen discovered what appeared to be sticks of dynamite in a package he bought at a flea market or garage sale. The citizen brought it to the fire station shortly after 7 p.m. as a precaution.

The Kansas City police bomb squad responded and determined the materials were no threat.

Homes and businesses within 100 yards of the fire station had been evacuated and Missouri 58 near the station was temporarily closed.
