Three charged with bonding man out of jail and then shooting him in Kansas City

Three Kansas City-area men have been charged with shooting a man shortly after he bonded free from jail on Wednesday.

Billy J. Mattic, 27, Joseph B. Sommerville, 21, and Sean Smith, 24, face assault and armed criminal action charges.

Court records say the shooting victim told police one of the men bonded him out of jail. The victim told police that surprised him, because he had not called for help, and that he was shot while riding in a car with all three men. He told police he was shot once, jumped out of the car, and was shot at by all the occupants of the vehicle.

The victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds near 49th Street and U.S. 71 Highway early Wednesday. He told a police officer he was shot in the area of 57th Street and South Benton Boulevard. The court record states that officers later found shell casings at that location.

Prosecutors requested bonds up to $150,000 on the three co-defendants.
