Man suspected of firing shot at KCK police kills self in wooded area
A robbery suspect involved in a Thursday night standoff with Kansas City, Kan., police apparently shot himself to death.
Police said the incident began about 7:40 p.m. Thursday when police went to a business in the 1300 block of Merriam Lane looking for a robbery suspect.
As officers approached, the suspect ran out of the business and into nearby woods. Officers began to pursue, but stopped when they heard a gunshot.
Officers surrounded the area, and during a subsequent search they found the man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
