That wasn’t just any KC police officer arresting hit-run suspect
A driver suspected in an injury hit-and-run accident Saturday afternoon surrendered to a pursuing officer — Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forté.
Forté tweeted details of his role.
After hearing over his vehicle radio of the incident, which occurred near 12th Street and Troost Avenue, Forté headed that way. He asked for a description of the missing car and where it had been headed, and then he drove toward the northern loop of Interstate 70.
He soon saw a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle near the River Market.
Forté, who drives an unmarked sport-utility vehicle equipped with police lights and siren, activated both near Seventh and Delaware streets.
“The driver pulled over and stuck his hands up,” Forté said. “I asked for backup before I approached him. We had another car there in about a minute.”
