The violent year continued in Kansas City with a double shooting early Monday that killed a man and injured another.

Police received reports of the shootings about 2:50 a.m. near 39th Street and Cypress Avenue.

Arriving officers found the body of a man who had been shot to death as well as a second man who had been shot. The surviving victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The homicide is Kansas City’s 86th homicide of the year. In comparison in 2016, Kansas City had 130 homicides, which was the city’s highest since 1998.
