A Kansas City man was sentenced to life in prison plus 15 years after he was convicted of molesting and sodomizing a 9-year-old.

A Jackson County jury in May convicted 45-year-old Mark A. Powell of first-degree child molestation and first-degree statutory sodomy. He was sentenced Wednesday by a Jackson County judge.

Powell was sentenced to life for statutory sodomy plus 15 years in prison for child molestation.

The sentences will run consecutively, Jackson County officials said.
