Charges filed in KC man’s Sunday night shooting death
A Kansas City man was charged Wednesday in the Sunday night shooting death of a man just east of the hospital hill area.
Jackson County prosecutors charged 49-year-old Christopher V. Perkins with first-degree murder in the killing of Kelvin Paige.
He was also charged with an alternative count of felony murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
A witness told police that Perkins and Paige got into a verbal argument Sunday night near 25th and Campbell streets. Paige, 53, and a passenger in his car, began to drive away when Perkins allegedly pulled out a gun and fired into the vehicle, according to court documents.
The passenger got out and ran and Paige’s car rolled for about a block until it crashed into a light pole.
Several people driving by shortly afterward saw a man dragging a man’s body by the ankles toward a pickup truck, which according to court documents, was similar in appearance to a truck driven by Perkins.
Perkins is being held on a bond of $250,000.
