Man faces DUI charge after car hits Ranchmart North Shopping Center in Leawood

A Kansas City man is accused of driving under the influence after his car ran into a shop at a Leawood shopping center Sunday night.

Nathaniel Keirsey, 24, was charged in Leawood Municipal Court with driving under the influence and other traffic charges.

Leawood police said they were called about 8 p.m. Sunday to the area of 92nd Street and High Drive on a report of a speeding car.

Officers didn’t see the car, but a short time later, received reports of a car driving through yards in the area of 98th Street and Belinder Road. The same car was then involved in a crash nearby, but the driver did not stop for arriving officers, according to police.

Police pursued the car for a short distance before it hit a building at the Ranchmart North Shopping Center near 95th Street and Mission Road.

Keirsey was arrested at the scene and taken to the Johnson County Detention Center.
