Man accused of driving through Leawood lawns, leading police on a chase

A man was arrested by Leawood police Sunday after allegedly driving through Leawood yards then leading police on a chase that ended when he crashed into a building in the Ranchmart North Shopping Center.

Police first received reports of a suspicious speeding car near West 92nd Street and High Drive. When officers arrived, they didn’t find the vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, police received reports of a similar vehicle that was driving through yards in the area of West 98th Street and Belinder Road.

The vehicle crashed near 98th and Manor Road. The driver, however, failed to stop for arriving officers and led them on a short pursuit to Ranchmart North Shopping Center near West 95th Street and Mission Road, where he struck a building.

Police arrested the man following the crash. No one was injured, but the incident resulted in about $5,000 in property damage.
