Police identify man killed by U.S. Marshals deputy
Kansas City police have identified the man shot and killed by a U.S. Marshals Service deputy on Friday afternoon as Fred E. Liggett Jr., 59.
The deputy shot Liggett in the 8700 block of East 97th Terrace, where marshals were serving an arrest warrant, according to Kansas City police, who investigated the shooting.
Police said the marshals fugitive apprehension task force was serving a warrant from Johnson County on a charge of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
Inside the home marshals were met by a man armed with a gun. Police said a deputy marshal fired his weapon in “response to the subject’s actions.”
In addition to identifying Liggett, police on Saturday said they had not determined whether Liggett lived in that home or was visiting. They also were still unsure whether Liggett was the man being sought.
