Independence police chase ends in fatal crash in Kansas City
A driver fleeing Independence police died after crashing in east Kansas City early Wednesday, authorities said.
Police identified him as Jeremy M. House, 21, of Kansas City, Kan.
The crash occurred shortly after Independence police tried to stop House for a traffic violation about 1:30 a.m. near U.S. 40 and Pittman Road. House and his female passenger sped away.
The officer stopped his pursuit as House’s vehicle continued into Kansas City, police said.
House continued south on Pittman and lost control of the vehicle near East 45th Terrace. The vehicle went off the road and overturned into a culvert. Officers arrived moments later.
Both occupants were taken to a hospital. House, who was not wearing a seat belt, later died. The female passenger, who wore a seat belt, was in serious but stable condition Wednesday.
