Belton police: Man in custody in possible road rage shooting death of Benjamin Friend
A man wanted for questioning in connection with the fatal shooting of a Belton man is in police custody.
Belton police said Tajudeen Belo Osagie, also known as Harry Mack Jr., was arrested Monday in Kansas City on outstanding warrants. He was transported to Belton on Wednesday and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the shooting death of Benjamin Friend of Belton.
Police said Friend may have been shot as the result of a road rage incident. He was shot and killed about 5:40 p.m. Oct. 18 near Prospect Avenue and Missouri 150 in Belton.
According to online court records, Osagie, 30, was sentenced in 2014 to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of second-degree assault.
Three of the four five-year sentences were to run concurrently. However, Osagie was released months later after serving 120 days of shock time as part of a suspended sentence.
He was ordered to complete three years of supervised probation for those crimes, but his probation was suspended in September for a parole violation.
Court records indicate Osagie violated terms of his probation by not paying restitution to one of the assault victims.
A warrant was issued for Osagie’s arrest Sept. 12.
