Lane closures planned along part of U.S. 50 in Lee’s Summit

Nightly intermittent lane closures planned along part of U.S. 50

The Missouri Department of Transportation announced Nov. 20 that it will have nightly intermittent lane closures along U.S. 50 in both directions between northbound Missouri 291 and Third Street in Lee’s Summit beginning Nov. 27 through Dec. 2 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each evening.

The lane closures are planned so that crews can remove overhangs on new bridges.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead if necessary. All work is weather permitting.

Lee’s Summit receives 2017 Digital Cities award

The city of Lee’s Summit was recently recognized as a leader in digital technology with the 2017 Digital Cities Survey award from the Center for Digital Government.

The city announced in a news release that it was ranked third in its population category for its ability to leverage technology to better serve its citizens, enhance transparency, and increase citizen engagement.

Cities across the U.S. are invited to participate in five population classifications. This is the fourth time Lee’s Summit has placed in the top 10 in the 75,000 to 124,999 category. Two other Missouri cities, Independence and Columbia, were recognized in the same category.

The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute focused on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government.

Chamber’s business magazine awarded Gold Philly Award

The Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce’s quarterly business magazine, Catalyst, recently was presented with a Gold Philly Award for the first time at the Nonprofit Connect 2017 Philly Awards banquet on Nov. 15 at Boulevard Brewing Company.

The annual Nonprofit Connect event had 15 categories to showcase the marketing and communication efforts of nonprofit businesses in the Kansas City area. The award was given to Catalyst in the “Print/Electronic Magazine” category for nonprofits under $3 million in income.

Catalyst is a magazine that has featured Lee’s Summit-area businesses and profiled CEOs and business owners. The magazine is planned, collaborated, and executed by the Chamber’s creative team, including Stephanie Kusek, director of communications; Heather Thompson, advertising account manager; and Sami Dupuis, creative coordinator.
