Kansas City, North, man shot during confrontation with gunmen

A Kansas City, North, man was in critical condition Friday after being shot Thursday night when two men forced their way into a residence.

Police arrived at the residence in the 5000 block of North Brighton Avenue just before midnight and found the wounded man sprawled on the kitchen floor.

Investigators said details of what prompted the shooting remained sketchy. However, a female resident said that before the shooting, she opened a door to allow her dog to go outside. Minutes later, she heard the dog barking and went to investigate and was confronted by two gunmen.

The gunmen asked her about items they believed to be inside the house. They ordered her to look upstairs.

After the shooting, the men fled. They did not find what they were looking for, police said.
