KCK firefighters will raise money for family of slain detective
Kansas City, Kan., firefighters will be collecting money over the Memorial Day weekend to help the family of slain police detective Brad Lancaster.
The “boot block campaign” will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Firefighters will be stationed at 17 intersections throughout Kansas City, Kan.
Lancaster, the father of two daughters, was fatally shot May 9 near Kansas Speedway.
Curtis Ayers, the Tonganoxie man charged with capital murder in his death, was shot and arrested by Kansas City police later that day.
Ayers remained hospitalized Wednesday.
