A day after a Kansas City streetcar had a minor derailment near Union Station, the cause remained under investigation Tuesday.

Kansas City Streetcar Authority spokeswoman Donna Mandelbaum said she did not have any concrete information on the reason behind Monday’s derailment at the track switch near Union Station.

She said that more information should emerge this week and that there probably would be a report at the monthly Streetcar Authority board meeting Thursday.

Car 804 went off the rail about 3:30 p.m. Monday, and the streetcar system was shut down until after dark. Streetcar link buses carried streetcar passengers during that time, and the streetcar resumed operation Monday night.

Only a few riders were on board at the time of the derailment, and there were no injuries.

The track switch was working properly Tuesday, and Car 804 was not damaged, Mandelbaum said.
