Flames engulfed a historic building in Abilene, Kan., on Wednesday night, destroying the Great Plains Theatre.

Several news reports said the fire was reported about 7 p.m. No one was thought to be in the structure at the time and there were no reported injuries.

The building was erected in 1882 as a church and was used for the last 20 years for movies and live performances. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
