A 54-year-old Lake Quivira man was killed early Sunday in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 435 at Johnson Drive in Shawnee.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said James R. Belfield was southbound on the highway at 4:50 a.m. when his BMW X5 left the road and struck a steel bridge support. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The damage caused the Kansas Department of Transportation to close the left eastbound lane of Johnson Drive over I-435 until further notice.
