Fatal wrong-way accident closes northbound I-35 in KCK
A fatal wrong-way traffic accident Friday night closed down a stretch of northbound Interstate 35 south of 7th Street Trafficway in Kansas City, Kan.
The accident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m., according to the Kansas Highway Patrol, when a Toyota Highlander traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-35 collided head-on with a Nissan Leaf.
The driver of the Nissan died, the patrol said.
The driver of the Toyota was injured and transported to a hospital.
Northbound I-35 was to remain closed until the patrol’s on-scene investigation was finished.
Traffic was being detoured off northbound I-35 through Southwest Boulevard, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Drivers were advised to avoid northbound I-35 before Mission Road and take an alternate route.
No other details were immediately available.
