Second rabid bat confirmed in Lee’s Summit
A second rabid bat has been confirmed in Lee’s Summit, police said Wednesday.
The bat was dead before animal control officers arrived Sunday at the home where it was found in the 1200 block of S.W. Walnut Street. It later tested positive for rabies. No human or pet contact was reported.
The home is about four miles from where the first rabid bat was recovered June 1 from a home in the 800 block of N.E. Chestnut.
Residents should avoid contact with dead or sick animals, and they should have their pets vaccinated each year against rabies, police said.
