Kansas City Zoo trumpets arrival of Tamani the bull elephant
A male African elephant has arrived at the Kansas City Zoo, officials said Monday.
Tamani, who is nearly 10 years old, was transferred here from the Birmingham Zoo in Alabama. He is getting used to his new home in the zoo’s bull yard, separate from the six resident female African elephants.
They will be introduced gradually. The bull yard is visible from an overlook.
The females are past reproductive age but zoo officials hope to establish a breeding program in the future.
