Drivers who use the Platte Purchase and Fairfax bridges to get over the Missouri River on U.S. 69 will find major traffic changes late Friday morning.

Crews will shift all traffic to the Platte Purchase Bridge and limit both northbound and southbound traffic on U.S. 69 to one lane between Interstate 635 in Riverside and Kindleberger Road in Kansas City, Kan.

The shift is needed so crews can replace the bridges with a single, four-lane bridge that connects Wyandotte County with the northland.

The $79 million bridge replacement project, shared by the Missouri and Kansas departments of transportation, is expected to be completed by December 2016.
