Sister and brother charged in fatal December shooting in KC

Jackson County prosecutors on Thursday accused a woman and her brother of fatally shooting the woman’s roommate in December.

Prosecutors charged Monique Ransom, 33, and Omar T. Muhammad, 22, both of Kansas City, each with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Dec. 6 death of Eric R. Harrell, 33.

Ransom allegedly threatened to kill Harrell the day before his death. She had been arrested for allegedly assaulting him. As she was being released from jail, she reportedly told jailers, “I’m going to kill this ... Eric. I’m going to be back,” according to court records.

Court records allege Ransom’s boyfriend drove her and Mohammed to the home in the 2500 block of Quincy Avenue. Ransom and Mohammed allegedly pointed guns at Harrell to rob him and shot him when he resisted, court records said. He sustained wounds to his abdomen, leg and head.

Kansas City police arrested Ransom on Thursday. Mohammed had been in jail since Dec. 11 on an unrelated charge.
