Jackson County prosecutors charged a 24-year-old St. Louis man with two counts of aggravated assault after he allegedly shot at police officers outside a downtown night club after a disturbance early Sunday.
Prosecutors also charged Cahlan Clay with two counts of armed criminal action. He remained in jail Monday in lieu of a $500,000 cash-only bond.
Off-duty officers working in the area responded to a parking lot next to Club Luna at 1520 Grand Boulevard about 2:45 a.m. after they heard gunshots. They saw a man shoot another man in the chest and arm. When they told the gunman to drop the weapon, the gunman ran, pointed the gun at them and fired, according to police. An officer shot him in the leg.
Clay allegedly shot the other man after a disturbance in the club over a woman that had spilled outside, investigators said. The victim in that case, who was from Florida, was uncooperative with police, according to reports.
