More Kansas City fountains are turning blue for the Royals

True blue.

Expect to see Kansas City’s fountains flow with the color of Royals pride beginning Friday until the World Series is over. And, should the town be gushing in victorious celebration, so too might the fountains for a few days after, said Heidi Downer, marketing and events manager for the Kansas City Department of Parks and Recreation.

Although Kansas City is home to hundreds of fountains, the city is responsible for 48. Of those, she said, eight are made of materials that don’t stain and make them “dye-able.” For a while, six have already been spouting water bluer than normally seen in nature.

Early afternoon on Friday, the remaining two — the Concourse Fountain at Benton Boulevard and St. John Avenue, and the Children’s Fountain at North Oak Trafficway and Northeast 32nd Avenue — will run blue as well.

The Kansas City Royals will contribute $1,000 per fountain for the first day and about $100 per day per fountain after that. All the money goes to the city’s “Wish Upon A Fountain” campaign, which provides funds for fountain repairs, upkeep and beautification.

The other fountains:

▪ The J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain east of the Country Club Plaza.

▪ The Sea Horse Fountain at Ward Parkway and Meyer Boulevard.

▪ The Northland Fountain at North Oak Trafficway and Northeast Vivion Road.

▪ The Spirit of Freedom Fountain at Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue.

▪ The Westside Fountain at Southwest Boulevard and Summit Street.

▪ The Women’s Leadership Fountain at the Paseo and Ninth Street.
