A woman escaped a large apartment fire Tuesday morning after jumping from a third-floor balcony, according to a release from the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department.

The fire department was dispatched to the blaze at a complex at 7350 State Avenue just after 10:45 a.m., the release indicated. The call was later upgraded to a two-alarm fire.

The resident who escaped was transported to an area hospital. Her current condition is not known.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a single unit, according to the release. Photos show extensive damage to the apartment’s walls and roof.

It not yet known how many residents were displaced by the fire. The KCKFD did not immediately respond to The Star’s request for comment Tuesday.
