Christmas morning fire strikes Lee’s Summit house, leaving residents needing shelter

Lee’s Summit firefighters are investigating the cause of a house fire that left residents needing shelter early Christmas morning, according to a department release.

Officers were called to the single-story home at 4:51 a.m. by a resident who was evacuating near the 400 block of Northeast Bristol Drive, said Assistant Chief Jim Eden, a spokesman for the department.

Flames and heavy plumes of smoke emanated from the house as crews arrived. Multiple residents evacuated.

Officers got the fire under control by 5:30 a.m., but the home was severely damaged.

The Red Cross is assisting the residents displaced by the fire as temperatures hovered in the single-digits.
