A hiker who was reported missing Monday was found dead near Blue Springs, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said.

The cause of death is not known, Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forté said in a tweet. The medical examiner was at the scene as of Monday around 3:30 p.m., according to the sheriff.

The search for the hiker was centered around a wooded area near Lake Jacomo, a freshwater reservoir about 20 miles southeast of Kansas City, Forté said.

Boats, search and rescue dogs, park rangers and a drone were deployed to help the search, Forté said earlier in the day.

The hiker has not yet been identified.
