At least 4 horses die after loaded trailer catches fire on I-70 near Grain Valley, Missouri

At least four horses died Friday afternoon when a loaded trailer caught fire along Interstate 70 near Grain Valley, the Missouri Highway Patrol reported.

The fire occurred about 1:30 p.m. about one mile west of the exit to Grain Valley along eastbound I-70, according to Kansas City Scout.

About a half hour later, the highway patrol said on Twitter that its trooper were on the scene and that highway was completely blocked and traffic was being diverted.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the trailer caught fire and at least four horses were confirmed deceased, the highway patrol reported.

Video from a Kansas City Scout traffic camera showed the fire had been extinguished and that traffic was squeezing by the wreckage by 2:30 p.m.
