Fire heavily damages vacant Lee’s Summit house
An early morning fire heavily damaged a vacant house in Lee’s Summit Friday.
Several people traveling on U.S. 50 about 4:40 a.m. reported seeing flames coming from the roof of the house in the 200 block of Southwest McClendon Drive.
When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and fire coming from the roof of the one-story house.
As firefighters entered the house to search for possible victims and to attack the blaze, they discovered the fire had burned through the floor. They backed out of the house and fought the fire from the outside.
Crews entered the house again once the fire was knocked down to search for victims and to extinguish the fire.
No one was found inside the vacant house. The fire was brought under control by 5:10 a.m.
Investigators are looking into the origin and cause of the fire.
