Police are investigating the death of a person after a caller found a decomposing body in an wooded area on Prospect Avenue, according to Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for Kansas City police.

Police responded to the 5800 block of Prospect Avenue shortly after 8 a.m. Monday after a caller reported that there was a deceased person in a wooded area there, Becchina said.

Arriving officers found a decomposing body in the area, prompting the death investigation. Because of the state of decomposition, the medical examiner will need to determine the gender of the body and the cause of death, Becchina said.
