William Jewell College President David Sallee announced Thursday that he plans to retire in 14 months. He’s led the institution since August 2000.

The longest serving president among Kansas City area colleges and universities, Sallee is the liberal arts college’s 15th president.

The school’s board of trustees said in a news release it will start a national search to replace him.

Sallee was vice president for enrollment at Luther College in Iowa and at Oklahoma Baptist University before coming to William Jewell.

A news release from the college announcing his retirement credited him for bolstering the “long-term strength” of William Jewell while raising its profile and putting more technology to use on campus.
