The new $6 million “Orangutan Canopy” exhibit opened Friday at the Kansas City Zoo.

The 3,400-square-foot outdoor portion of the exhibit will allow the zoo’s six Bornean orangutans a more naturalistic environment than the one they had been living in. Visitors can observe the apes through large viewing windows at different levels. An indoor day room was renovated with new climbing equipment.

The exhibit is behind the polar bear display on the way to the zoo’s Tiger Trail.
