Search underway for missing boater at Smithville Lake
Authorities are searching for a man reported missing Thursday at Smithville Lake.
A relative filed the missing person report Thursday morning after the man borrowed a boat Wednesday and never returned.
The boat was found empty later Thursday on the bank of the lake near Sailboat Cove, according to a spokesman for the Missouri Highway Patrol.
The boat's engine was running and the transmission was in neutral, according to the patrol.
The highway patrol tweeted Thursday afternoon that the missing boater is Charles O. Roe, 37, of Smithville.
Searchers from multiple agencies, aided by a Kansas City police helicopter, are searching the lake.
