Inmate visits at the Jackson County Detention Center were canceled Tuesday because of staffing issues.

According to reports, several guards at the jail failed to show up for work.

KCTV-5 reported visitations were canceled for the safety and security of the jailers and inmates.

The jail used temporary guards Tuesday night, the station reported.

The jail has been operating with about 30 fewer guards than it needs, just one in a long list of systemic problems at the overcrowded, understaffed detention center.
