Pedestrian critically injured when he was struck by a vehicle in Independence
A 53-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing U.S. 40 in Independence late Wednesday.
The man was attempting to cross the highway at 43rd Street about 9:55 p.m. Wednesday.
A single vehicle heading east struck the man, who was rushed to a local hospital.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
