Pilot injured in plane crash near Grain Valley airport

A pilot was seriously injured when a single-engine airplane crashed about 2 p.m. Tuesday in Grain Valley, authorities said.

The plane came to rest upside down and was heavily damaged during the crash, which happened as the pilot tried to land at the East Kansas City Airport, police sad.

Federal aviation officials were headed to the scene to investigate, police said.
