KC motorist is killed when pickup crashes into tree and catches fire

A motorist was killed early Friday and a passenger was in serious condition at a hospital when their pickup struck a tree and burst into flames in the 2300 block of Topping Avenue.

The crash was reported shortly after midnight. Police said the driver apparently lost control and the pickup left the road, struck a wooden utility pole, a parked car and then crashed into a tree. The truck then burst into flames.

The driver died at the scene. A passenger was rushed to a nearby hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Police have not released the name of the driver.
