Kansas City schools superintendent will walk district neighborhoods on Nov. 5

If you get an unexpected knock at your door Nov. 5, it might be Kansas City Public Schools Superintendent Mark Bedell. He’ll be traveling through neighborhoods that day talking to residents about the schools in the city.

Bedell expects to be joined by other district education leaders including principals, faculty, staff and volunteers who will travel in groups through various neighborhoods engaging parents and community members. Bedell is calling the effort KCPS Connects.

He said the connect campaign is part of his ongoing effort to collect feedback from the community. Bedell, in his first 100 days on the job, has engaged the community in a variety of events including his Listening and Learning Tour, having lunch with students and teacher town hall meetings.

“This is a great opportunity for us to get into the neighborhoods we serve and talk to our community about the new Kansas City Public Schools,” Bedell said.

Information Bedell gathers from all the community engagement will be used to help him effectively create a strategic plan for the district.

The door to door canvas will begin about 10 a.m. Nov. 5 and run until about 2 p.m.

Bedell is looking for people who will volunteer to assist him in his KCPS Connects campaign. People who are interested in volunteering can go to their nearest district school to join school leaders as they survey the community.
