Twitter dubs Jim Webb loser, ‘wizard’ in the crowd the winner of Democratic debate
Everyone from mommies and high-schoolers to Republican presidential candidate @realDonald Trump live-tweeted the Democratic debate on Tuesday.
Sure, there were the usual live-tweeting suspects - the women of “The View,” late-night comedy writers, political junkies and pundits.
But live-tweeting is truly a democratic pastime and everyday folks, Democrats and Republicans alike, joined in the fun, starting off with commentary on that bearded gent in the debate audience who looked either like Santa or a “Lord of the Rings” wizard.
And now for a question on Wizard/Muggle relations from the audience. #DemDebate pic.twitter.com/dP1vNTsSy3
— Heather Hogan (@hhoagie) October 14, 2015The snark flowed early, first about Hillary Clinton’s pantsuit, and continued right on through relentless mocking of candidate Jim Webb’s relentless whining about not getting any air time.
According to Twitter, Webb was hands-down the biggest loser of the night.
Jim Webb seems like a divorced dad on his first date in 20 years suddenly realizing it's not going well. #DemDebate
— Gabe Delahaye (@gabedelahaye) October 14, 2015Final Tally: Clinton 5 points Sanders 3 points O'Malley 1 point Chafee: Participation ribbon Webb: Minus infinity #DemDebate
— JoeMyGod (@JoeMyGod) October 14, 2015Actually, Sheryl Crow was a close second loser for her rendition of the National Anthem before the debate.
Wow! Sheryl Crow butchered the National Anthem worse than Obama butchered the Constitution. #DemDebate @realDonaldTrump
— President Trump (@Writeintrump) October 14, 2015Twitter appreciated how substantive the debate turned out to be, noting the lack of personal attacks compared to what’s been seen during the Republican debates.
Acting like adults No childish personal attacks Respect for moderators No making crazy faces What a difference. #DemDebate
— Tim Williams (@realtimwilliams) October 14, 2015When the Democrats debate, substantive issues are discussed. When the GOP debates, you get this. #DemDebate pic.twitter.com/D7MkqjOoBT
— Nerdy Wonka (@NerdyWonka) October 14, 2015Bernie Sanders not only incited a standing ovation in the debate crowd, but got Twitter cheering with this line about Hillary Clinton’s email scandal: “The American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails.”
Then when Anderson Cooper asked me about my emails, I was all like 'Whatever Anderson.' #DemDebate pic.twitter.com/9auiaAKUiL
— Nathan (@stockejock) October 14, 2015But at least one live-tweeter worried about what the day-after commentary would be.
I liked Bernie's response to the email controversy, but if the next 24 hours is a "he's her knight in shining armor" trope, count me out.
— Sara Lang (@SaraLang) October 14, 2015And about those personal bios ...
"I'm the granddaughter of a factory worker and the grandmother of a factory worker." - Hilary running for president of China. #DemDebate
— jonny umansky (@jonnyumansky) October 14, 2015Some comments from the candidates were perfect set-ups, like Clinton retelling how she and President Obama hunted down the Chinese at a conference to talk about climate change.
Hillary and Obama hunted Chinese people? I'd rent that on Video on Demand. #DemDabate #CNNDebate
— Travon Free (@Travon) October 14, 2015And all those house parties Sanders said his supporters were having around the country?
4000 House Parties is also something you could find at a Blockbuster clearance sale #DemDebate pic.twitter.com/dhZXs0Cnuf
— NowThis (@nowthisnews) October 14, 2015Even CNN’s Anderson Cooper didn’t escape unscathed.
Look at Anderson Cooper. Trying to be like Miley Cyrus at the VMA's. "Yeah! Weed rules!" Shut up, Anderson, you dweeb. #DemDebate
— Peter Hoare (@PeterHoare) October 14, 2015And what did Trump think of the night?
"@releafpen: Dem debate message summary = More free handouts. They will be voting in droves. We need to get out and vote Trump BIG TIME!"
