Gov. Jay Nixon calls special elections for three vacant seats in the Missouri General Assembly
Gov. Jay Nixon has set Nov. 3 as the date for special elections in three Missouri House districts, two from the Kansas City area.
Voters in the 29th District in eastern Jackson County will pick a replacement for Republican Noel Torpey, who resigned last December.
Voters in the 36th District in south Kansas City will replace Democrat Kevin McManus, who was recently elected to the Kansas City Council.
Nixon also called a special election to replace former House speaker John Diehl of Town and Country, Mo. Diehl, a Republican, resigned in May.
Party committees will select nominees for the seats.
Nixon did not set a date for an election to replace Sen. Paul LeVota, an Independence Democrat. LeVota has announced his intention to resign.
