After being a tenant for eight years, the KIPP KC charter middle school is completing negotiations with the city of Kansas City to buy the former Metropolitan Community College Pioneer Campus building at 18th Street and Prospect Avenue.

KIPP won a request for proposal process to buy the building for $2.3 million.

As the building owner, KIPP intends to expand into the existing 95,000-square-foot facility as leases for other tenants end.

Some renovations are taking place this summer to prepare for the addition of one class each in kindergarten through fourth grade.

The school, also known as KIPP Endeavor Academy, currently serves fifth through eighth grades. It expects 380 students to attend this fall, about 100 more than it had this spring.
